Last night I had the opportunity to meet the distinguished Captain John Lloyd FNI, CEO of The Nautical Institute. Captain Lloyd came all the way from London to Sydney to be the special Guest of Honour for The Nautical Institute SEA Sydney dinner. John is also the ex-Director of the National Centre for Ports and Shipping at the Australian Maritime College. He gave us an inspiring presentation.
I joined The Nautical Institute in 2018, the year my husband Captain Dick Gandy passed away, as Dick had been its long-time member. At the time, I didn’t really know anything about this organization, but I am now so glad and proud to be a member of this great organization. The Nautical Institute has given me the opportunity to connect with many highly regarded master mariners and veteran seafarers. Many of them have helped me with the update of 6th edition of the Australian Boating Manual. I am very grateful to each and every one of them - my maritime heroes.
It would be remiss of me not to thank Commodore Christopher Rynd, Chairman of The Nautical Institute SEA and Jillian Carson-Jackson, the ex-president of The Nautical Institute and a passionate maritime professional, for introducing the Australian Boating Manual to Captain Lloyd and for recommending it to The Nautical Institute members and their maritime colleagues.
I felt especially humbled last night when Jillian acknowledged me for my work in keeping my late husband's legacy alive by publishing the 6th Edition of the iconic Australian Boating Manual. Thank you, Jillian, for your kind words and support for me and for all seafarers.
